Join me as we dive into the power of creative nonfiction in this online writing course. We’ll investigate structure and craft, helping familiarize you with writing techniques, as well as explore the elusive magic that makes writing come alive and dance off the page. Here you can get clear on your purpose, pursue a life you’ve dreamed about, learn, and grow. You get encouragement to be disciplined and establish accountability strategies. And if publishing is your goal, you get the feedback and support you need to make your work publishable.
Creative Nonfiction Writing Course Content
During class I employ journaling, readings, discussions, lectures, PowerPoints, and Q&A, as well as many kinds of writing exercises. Occasionally I host guest lectures.
Readings include pieces by writers who might have been traditionally excluded from literary conversations.
Complete the class with multiple pieces of work you can be proud of.
Live via Zoom
Join our live via Zoom class.
We will meet live via Zoom one evening a week, 7-9 pm Eastern Time.
In addition, an optional Social Hour takes place before class every week. This is a time to connect with others, get clarifications, and ask questions outside of precious class time.
Pages and Pages of Writing Guides
I’ve developed PDF guides to illustrate and clarify the concepts we’ll work through. These guides are resources that I’ve used to publish many successful books in my career. I’ve chosen the best and most accessible guides as included printable resources to help you record, remember, and apply what you learn.
Weekly Q&A
We save time for a freestyle Q&A in each live weekly session in my creative nonfiction writing course. Jot down your wonderings, questions, and worries each week to ask them in class. I’ll address your questions directly, and the whole class will benefit.
Marketing and Publishing Strategy Session
Getting your work published requires a different skill set than did the writing of your story. In the final week of our course, we’ll shift from essential writing skills to the strategy you need to get published.
Gain the knowledge, tips, and insight I’ve gathered over decades of publishing work.

I have loved being in your orbit for these past weeks. Your passion and commitment not only to writing but in your support for other writers is special. Your power was infectious, your support infectious, and your commitment to other writers, same.

WriterFAQ
1. How do I know this is the right class for me?
Magical Craft of Creative Nonfiction is appropriate for you if you’ve started a work that you intend to get published and have a degree of seriousness about that publishing. You don’t have to be published or have an MFA, but you should have done the work for your writing. This isn’t a casual weekend course. This course is about producing something of which you can be proud.
2. What do you mean by “magical” in the term “magical craft?”
Writing operates not only at the level of words on a page, but also the spirit behind the words. Something more than craft will be necessary in your practice, and that is a deep and constant relationship with mystery. Every life, every story, contains magic, and how does a writer get there? We need to learn the practical elements of craft, yes, but we can’t ignore the mystical.
3. What if I can’t make the Zoom meetings?
Each course meeting is recorded and posted upon completion of our weekly meeting. Some students have day jobs or other commitments during the live sessions and choose to watch the recording.
4. I’m not sure if I can produce on the spot.
If you’re worried about generating stories, no worries—you’re in charge. You can listen in and do none of the work, or you can listen in and do the work later. You’re in control of every level of your performance. Speaking or sharing your work in the course is 100% optional.
5. Is this tax-deductible?
Check with your accountant, but in most cases—yes! You’ll receive a receipt for use at tax time.

You were enlightening; I felt as if you connected with us all, and helped us see for a short time what it means to be alive for writing, for telling our truth.

You don’t have to make mistakes, waste time, or struggle with your writing. While it is easy to have a great writing idea and to get your first paragraphs down, it can be hard to complete your work if you’re working alone and without guidance.
That’s why I created Magical Craft of Creative Nonfiction—to get you the tools, structure, and guidance you need to bring your work to a successful finish.
Among the students who have completed this course, many who started off struggling have become published authors. I’d love to count you among them.
