I will be leading a short course in Journaling Earth.
I believe that each of us is born with a mission. Each of us has been given a purpose, and I think that service is always part of our mission.
The earth has called me to protect the ecology of this planet that is our home. That is my mission. It is to speak for the planet as well as for species who have no agency, authority, or voice. It is to midwife the survival of the human species.
I will be leading a short course in Journaling Earth. We’ll be exploring earth love and earth hope and earth grief—naming what we have seen—thinking about ways we nurture and caretake the environment—remembering all the ways we love it—feeling how we belong to the planet and to each other—disrupting dominant narratives that are destructive—using our stories as motivation.
The cost is whatever you can afford.
The course starts next Sunday afternoon, August 13, 2023, from 5-6 pm Eastern Time, and it runs like a flowing stream for 5 weeks, same time, Sundays 5-6 Eastern. We start at the mouth of the waterway and move upstream, toward the confluence.
This course is for you if you
- are worried about the environment
- would benefit from being in the same space with others similarly beset
- are brimming with thoughts and feelings, and know that journaling about them would be helpful
- would like to have in hand at least 15 pieces of writing at the end of 5 weeks
- want to be introduced to more ideas, writers, and colleagues
- could be inspired by prompts and handouts.
If you are able to join me, you’ll need to register on Eventbrite. The cost is sliding scale. You can pay as little as $1 or you can pay thousands. I’m doing this as a gift to you & to the world and because it’s part of my mission.
I can only offer this course to 100 people. As of this morning 25 have signed up. Folks have registered from New York, Washington State, Massachusetts, Illinois, North Carolina, Texas, Georgia, Florida, and points in between. Australia is in the room.
If you want to join us, the button is below. However, please do not sign up if you don’t plan to attend. I’d rather you leave the spot open for someone who really needs to be there.
I invite you to join me. I especially invite men and folks who are BIPOC.
My mission is wider than restoring a fragmented earth—I want to rebuild communities, human and wild, because in community can be found resilience. The pandemic caused a lot of damage to human community. It caused us to separate from and even distrust each other. The devolution of our democracy causes us to shun politics. And now the catastrophes of climate change are upon us—the climate emergency is entering our homes, forcing us to think about the environment, which we are doing now more rationally and more clearly than we have in a long, long time.
A whole and functional planet means that human community gets a better chance to be whole and functional. It means that we individually get a better chance to be whole and functional.
So I am asking a huge favor of you. In any way that you have begun to close off, to give up, to not care, to lay low, to be careful, to be silent, to shut down ideas and feelings—I ask you to rethink this. This is not the time to give up.
I ask you to explore your inner and outer landscapes with me and tell the stories you’ve been given.
